Selection Boundary

This page covers: iridium oxide (IrO₂) coated titanium anodes — the oxygen-evolution member of the MMO family — for electroplating, water treatment, electrolysis and cathodic protection where oxygen is the target anodic reaction.
This page does not cover: platinum-coated (Pt/Ti) anodes or chlorine-evolution MMO coatings. For platinum-coated duty, see Platinum-Coated Titanium Anode. For chlorine-evolution duty, see Ruthenium-Iridium Titanium Anode, and for the fuller MMO range see MMO Titanium Anode.
Selection note: coating loading, current density, and service life are interdependent and are confirmed together per quotation — none is guaranteed independently.
Introduction

Introduction

Iridium oxide (IrO₂) coated titanium anodes are the oxygen-evolution workhorse of the MMO family. Where chlorine-evolution coatings suit chloride-rich electrolytes, an IrO₂ based coating is matched to acidic oxygen-evolution duty — chrome plating, electro-winning, water treatment and cathodic protection — keeping the anode dimensionally stable while the counter reaction proceeds. Actual performance depends on coating chemistry, loading, current density and electrolyte chemistry, and is confirmed per quotation rather than stated as a universal value.

Ehisen applies IrO₂ based coatings in controlled multi-layers with measured precious-metal loading, and verifies every batch before dispatch. Each anode is engineered to your substrate dimensions, electrical duty, and operating conditions.

Coating Quality

Coating Control & Surface Quality

Coating loading and uniformity are measured, not assumed — the parameters that actually control anode life and current distribution.

Coating Loading & Uniformity

Active coating loading is measured and controlled per batch — the value that sets current-density rating and design life.

Bonding & Thermal Cycling

Adhesion and thermal cycling are checked during production to keep the coating stable under thermal and electrochemical load.

FAQ

FAQ

What is an iridium oxide coated titanium anode?
An iridium oxide coated titanium anode combines a titanium substrate with an active IrO₂ based oxide layer. It is the oxygen-evolution member of the MMO family, used where the target anodic reaction is oxygen — such as chrome plating, electro-winning, water treatment and cathodic protection.
How long does an iridium oxide coated titanium anode last?
Service life depends on coating loading, current density and operating conditions. A well-selected IrO₂ anode typically lasts several years in normal duty; the exact life is confirmed per order against your duty cycle.
Can an iridium oxide coated anode be re-coated after its coating wears out?
Yes. The titanium substrate can be stripped and re-coated with fresh iridium oxide coating, significantly lowering long-term ownership cost.
