Selection Boundary

This page covers: dimensionally stable anodes (DSA) — insoluble mixed metal oxide coated titanium anodes that keep their dimensions and electrochemical output under continuous chlor-alkali, electroplating, water treatment and cathodic protection duty.
This page does not cover: platinum-coated (Pt/Ti) anodes. For platinum-coated duty, see Platinum-Coated Titanium Anode. For the two main MMO families by reaction, see Iridium-Tantalum Titanium Anode (oxygen evolution) and Ruthenium-Iridium Titanium Anode (chlorine evolution).
Selection note: coating chemistry, loading, current density, and service life are interdependent and are confirmed together per quotation — none is guaranteed independently.
Introduction

Introduction

A dimensionally stable anode (DSA) is an insoluble coated titanium anode: unlike soluble or sacrificial anodes, it holds its dimensions and electrochemical output while the counter electrode is consumed. The active coating — typically IrO₂-based for oxygen evolution or RuO₂-based for chlorine evolution — is matched to the target reaction, so the anode keeps operating for years in continuous electrolysis, plating and cathodic protection duty. Actual performance depends on coating chemistry, loading, current density and electrolyte chemistry, and is confirmed per quotation rather than stated as a universal value.

Ehisen applies DSA coatings in controlled multi-layers with measured precious-metal loading, and verifies every batch before dispatch. Each anode is engineered to your substrate dimensions, electrical duty, and operating conditions.

Coating Quality

Coating Control & Surface Quality

Coating loading and uniformity are measured, not assumed — the parameters that actually control anode life and current distribution.

Coating Loading & Uniformity

Active coating loading is measured and controlled per batch — the value that sets current-density rating and design life.

Bonding & Thermal Cycling

Adhesion and thermal cycling are checked during production to keep the coating stable under thermal and electrochemical load.

FAQ

FAQ

What does DSA mean?
DSA stands for dimensionally stable anode — an insoluble coated titanium anode whose dimensions and electrochemical output remain stable during operation, unlike soluble or sacrificial anodes. The active coating is matched to the target reaction, for example IrO₂-based for oxygen evolution or RuO₂-based for chlorine evolution.
How long does a DSA titanium anode last?
Service life depends on coating chemistry, coating loading, current density and operating conditions. A well-selected DSA anode typically lasts several years in normal duty; the exact life is confirmed per order against your duty cycle.
Can a DSA anode be re-coated after its coating wears out?
Yes. The titanium substrate can be stripped and re-coated with fresh active coating, significantly lowering long-term ownership cost.
